Last October, Battle.net project director Greg Canessa took the stage to talk about the future of the encompassing online service Battle.net. During his presentation, he said that it would be 18 months until the next Starcraft II installment, Heart of the Swarm, would see the light of day. That timing would put the release of the hotly anticipated pseudo-sequel to the critically acclaimed real-time strategy game in either March or April 2012.
This week, Canessa's timing of the next Starcraft II was seconded by another Blizzard Entertainment employee. Speaking with Eurogamer, StarCraft II game director Dustin Browder was asked when he expects Heart of the Swarm to launch.
"I don't know the answer to that," said Browder. "I don't think you'll be playing it this year. That seems very unlikely to me. But we're pounding away on it as fast as we possibly can."
As for the current installment of Starcraft II, Wings of Liberty, the game earned awards for Outstanding Achievement in Online Gameplay and Strategy/Simulation Game of the Year at last night's Interactive Achievement Awards, held in conjunction with the DICE Summit in Las Vegas. I'm a big player of SC2 and realistically as long as Blizzard keeps on top of balancing via patches an expansion isn't altogether necessary for my favourite part which is online play.
Though I can't wait for the story to develop.
I like SC2 I think this is one of the best game ever ;D
Hey nice blog. Come check out mine. return favor. thx
Nice blog. Please check out mine ;D thank you
Yea, given Blizzards track record for releases (especially StarCraft's) I doubt we see heart of the swarm anytime soon..
I hope they prove me wrong though.
ahaha SC2 <3 just reached silver xD
nooooo :(
I really want this!!!
i have only just got into starcraft 2 and i love it, personally i dont mind if the next one doesnt come out for a while because it might give me a chance to catch up to everyone else who have been playing for ages haha
its to be expected, blizzard is always late with releases
DAMMIT! Well I saw that coming anyway, but still, I was half-hopeful. Oh well, its not like there's any shortage of games coming out this year.
We have already waited a decade. Im sure Duke Nukem Forever will come out first though.
yea i don't think the next ones will come out for awhile...it took them this long just to get sc2 out
you chosed the good game it's very nice.
I'd really like to play sc2, but then I think of the millions of koreans who are infinitely better then me, making me a noob for life, and I admit defeat.
Oh, wow! I thought they were going to release them like rapid fire... Well... I guess it will still be kinda rapid fire for Blizzard, lol.
